EBIA’s working groups bring together members’ expertise to address key technical and regulatory priorities for the bedding industry. The ESPR Task Force focuses on the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, helping EBIA develop common positions on future requirements such as durability, repairability, recyclability, recycled content and the Digital Product Passport. The Technical Committee provides a platform for technical experts from member companies to exchange knowledge, assess regulatory developments, and support EBIA’s evidence-based contribution to EU policy discussions.

Technical Committee

The EBIA Technical Committee meets once a year and brings together technical experts from member companies to discuss the main regulatory and technical developments affecting the bedding industry.

The 13 May 2026 meeting, held at Brussels Airport, focused in particular on the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation. Discussions covered EBIA’s guiding principles, possible ecodesign requirements, information requirements, and the role of the EBIA ESPR Task Force.

The meeting also addressed the upcoming Circular Economy Act, national developments in the field of Extended Producer Responsibility schemes, and the Sleep Circular project proposal.

Further agenda points included updates on fire-retardant testing of mattresses and broader EU legislative developments relevant to the bedding sector.

Task Force

The EBIA ESPR Task Force brings together members to follow and assess the impact of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation on the bedding industry.

Its role is to help EBIA develop a common industry position on future requirements for mattresses and bedding products, including durability, repairability, recyclability, recycled content, material recovery and information requirements.

The Task Force also works on the bedding sector’s approach to the Digital Product Passport, ensuring that future EU rules are realistic, technically feasible and adapted to the specific characteristics of bedding products.

Through this work, the Task Force supports EBIA’s advocacy towards EU institutions and helps members prepare for the regulatory changes that will shape the future of the sector.
