General Assembly 2026

EBIA is pleased to announce that its 27th General Assembly will take place on 17–18 September 2026 at the Malta Marriott Resort & Spa, under the theme “The Bedding Industry in a Changing World”.

At a time when the European bedding sector is facing major geopolitical, regulatory and sustainability challenges, this year’s General Assembly will offer members a timely opportunity to come together, exchange perspectives and reflect on the future of the industry.

A programme focused on change, competitiveness and the future of the sector

The conference will open on Thursday, 17 September, with the formal General Assembly proceedings, including the presentation of the EBIA Activities Report 2025–2026.

The afternoon sessions will then focus on navigating geopolitical change, with keynote contributions from Georg Riekeles and Fons Van Dyck. Their interventions will address Europe’s industrial policy, global geopolitical shifts, competitiveness, leadership and resilience in an age of permanent uncertainty.

This will be followed by a Geopolitical Change Panel Discussion, bringing together policy, strategy and industry voices to explore how global instability, changing market dynamics and competitiveness pressures are affecting the European bedding sector.

Sustainability and circularity at the heart of the discussion

On Friday, 18 September, the programme will turn to sustainability and circularity, beginning with an update on the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and its relevance for the bedding industry.

The discussion will continue with a sustainability panel addressing materials, product innovation, circular solutions and the practical challenges ahead for the bedding value chain. These exchanges will be particularly relevant as the sector prepares for the next phase of EU sustainability and product policy developments.

The conference programme will close with an Inspirational Session by Sophie Bostock, who will explore why sleep is not only a personal health issue, but also an employer’s business — linking sleep science to wellbeing, performance and organisational success.

Malta as a setting for connection and exchange

Alongside the conference programme, Malta will provide an inspiring backdrop for EBIA’s 27th General Assembly. From its historic architecture and coastal landscapes to its distinctive local traditions, the island will offer participants a unique environment for discussion, reflection and connection.

Participants are also invited to join the social programme, including the Welcome Drink and Gala Dinner at La Valette Hall on Thursday evening.

Friday afternoon and Companions programme

On Friday afternoon, an optional harbour cruise inside Valletta Harbour will also be organised.

A dedicated companions programme will be available on Friday morning, including a guided visit to Mdina and a hands-on pottery workshop at Bristow Potteries.
